Emma (Theilken) Bleser was born at home, 602 West North Grand Ave. in Springfield, Illinois, the daughter of Bernard D. Theilken and Effie May Smith. She was baptized on June 24, 1906 in St. John's Lutheran Church. Her godparents were Anna Marie (Theilken) Pohl (her father's sister) and Raymond Smith (her mother's brother). She was confirmed in the class of 1919. Emma attended Lawrence Portable School 1916-1917, Butler Grammar School and graduated from Lawrence Jr. High School. She quit school at 16 years of age to study art at a convent and correspondence school. On June 21, 1924 she married Joseph F. Bleser at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield. They had 4 children. The family moved to Los Angeles and later the Woodcrest area of Riverside, California. After Joe's death, she married George Lipsmire in 1960, a long time friend.
