Brother John Malachy Cosgrove OP., a member of the Dominican Province of St. Martin de Porres, died at the age of 79, on Friday, February 25, 2011, at Our Lady of Wisdom Healthcare Center in New Orleans, where he resided due to health reasons since 2000.
Born in Audubon, Pennsylvania, Brother John attended St. Rose of Lima School, Haddon Heights, and Camden Catholic High School. He entered the Dominican novitiate in 1952, and professed his solemn vows at Holy Name Church, Philadelphia, in 1959.
A Dominican Brother for more than 58 years, he served in ministries in Somerset, Ohio; Holy Name Priory, Philadelphia; Chimbote, Peru; New Haven, Conn; New York; New Orleans; Dallas, Houston and Humble, Texas; and Providence, Rhode Island.
Funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Wisdom Chapel, New Orleans, on Tuesday, March 1. Interment was held at a later date in the Dominican Friars Cemetery of Rosaryville, Ponchatoula, Lousiana.
