Upon discharge from the United States Army, he worked at the State Hospital in Hastings. Later he enrolled at Milford Trade School, earning a degree in electronics. He then worked for Sutton TV Center as a television repairman for 8 years. Lawrence and his wife then purchased and ran the Hi-Way Market and Larry's TV Repair in Sutton for 23 years. He was also employed by the Sutton School District.
