ESTEEMED AKRON WOMAN CALLED BY DEATH LAST WEEK
Last Rites Are Held Monday Afternoon For Mrs. John H. Dirks

Mrs. Mary (John H.) Dirks, an esteemed early-day Plymouth county resident, passed away at her home in this city last .Friday, April 3, 1959. On March 4, 1958, she suffered a stroke and had been bedfast until the time of her death. Always cheerful and uncomplaining-, she was glad when callers came to make her days brighter. She attained the age of 85 years, 6 months and 19 days.

Talke Maria Pageler Frerichs Dirks, daughter of Henry and Anna Catharina Pageler (born Rickels) was born October 16, 1873, in Wayne Twp., Monticello Iowa. She was baptized Feb. 16, 1874, by Pastor F. F. Oetjen, in Jones County, Iowa. She moved to Plymouth County as a child with her parents. She was confirmed March 25, 1888, in Christ Lutheran Church, Grant Twp., by Pastor Bunger.

On Dec. 5, 1890, she was married to John Frerichs in Christ Lutheran Church, Grant Twp. To this union were born three children. Mr. Frerichs passed away in 1911.

On March 28, 1913, she was married to John H. Dirks in Christ Lutheran Church, Grant Twp. by Pastor J. D. Meyer. They lived in Brunsville until retiring to Akron in 1942. She was preceded in death by her husband, John H., June 24, 1955; a daughter, Johanna, August 11, 1951, and a step-son, William Dirks, July 1957.

Left to mourn her passing are: two sons, Walter Dirks, Akron; Johnson Frerichs, Van Nuys, California; two daughters, Mrs. Tina Marienau, LeMars and Mrs. Marie Albright, Ireton; four step-sons: Bernd Dirks, Washington, D. C.; J. Fred, Henry, and Ed. J., Akron; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Anna Frerichs, Akron; Mrs. Minnie Downing, Iowa Falls, Mrs. Marie Hunter, Woodward, Oklahoma; 12 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, John Pageler, Alma, Nebr.; three sisters, Mrs. Madie Grosenheider, Ireton; Mrs. Caroline Brunken, LeMars; Mrs. Minnie Hartman, Richmond, California.

She was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters. She had been a member of the Aid of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Brunsville, years ago, and was always an active church worker. She was a member of Trinity at the time of her death.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Trinity Lutheran church, Rev. Luther A. Meyer officiating. Four granddaughters of the deceased.—Mrs. Judy Koch, Nadine, Deanna and Sharon Dirks — sang "Rock of Ages" and "My God and I." Mrs. Luther A. Meyer was organist. Grandsons acting as pallbearers were Wendell Renken, George Frerichs, Richard Dirks, Delaine Koch, John Marienau and John Dirks. Burial was in Grant Township Lutheran cemetery.

Relatives who came for the funeral included: Dr. and Mrs. Wm. R. Hunter, Woodward, Okla.; Mrs. Ray Downing, Iowa Falls, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Dunse, Republican City, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. Ted Heidemann, Wilcox. Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Dirks, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Dirks, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Spengenberg, Mr. and Mrs. Philip Dietz and Mrs. Ben Rath, all of Coleridge, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. Delaine Koch, Yankton, S. D.
