Tena Marienau, 95, Le Mars, a lifelong Plymouth County resident, died Friday (July 5, 1991) at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center after a brief illness.

Funeral was at 2 p.m. today (Monday) at Christ Lutheran church in Grant Township with Pastor Jack Hebard officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Visitation was Sunday with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home.

She was born Sept. 2, 1895, to John and Mary Pageler Frerichs at their home eight miles northwest of Le Mars. She was baptized there and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith the spring of 1909. On January 30, 1913, she married Henry William Marienau of Hildreth, Neb. and they settled into her parent's ty home in Grant Township. The couple farmed until his death on August 3, 1963. She remained a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Grant Township.

Survivors are two daughters and a son-in-law, Kathryn and Carol G. Ahrendt and Marie Phelan; two sons and one daughter-in-law, John Marienau, Henry J. and Evelyn Marienau, all of Le Mars; twelve grandchildren: Shirley (Ahrendt) and her husband Norm Lang, Marlowe Ahrendt, Roxanne (Ahrendt) Ahlrich, Jim Marienau and wife Verda, Randy (Marienau) and her husband Rich Oteken, Allen Phelan and wife Brenda, Gene Phelan, Randall Phelan and wife Deb, Bob Phelan, Roy Phelan, Julie Phelan and Joleen Phelan.

Also surviving are 17 greatgrandchildren, Darci (Lang) and her husband Brad Athens, Gina (Lang) and husband Doug Marks, Erin Lang, Tory and Cori Ahlrich, Jon and Joan Marienau, Jamie (Marienau) and husband William Goldmann, Toby Oetken and wife Charlotte, Staci, Jeff and Casey Oetken, Tracy Phelan, Tyler, Brandon, Justin and Jacqueline Phelan and one great-great-grandson, Andru Athens, a half-brother and his wife, Walter and Roberta Dirks of Akron; two. step-sisters, Minnie Downing and Marie Hunter of Woodward, Okla.; a stepsister-in-law Ethel Dirks of Akron; a half brother-in-law, Herman Renken of Akron.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, John Dirks; her husband Henry Sr.; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. John (Marie) Marienau; a son-in-law, Raymond Phelan; a sister, Marie Albright; a brother, Johnson Frerichs; a half-sister, Johanna (Dirks) Renken; a step-sister, Mrs. Dick (Anna Dirks) Frerichs; five stepbrothers, Ben, Henry, Ed, Fred, and William
Dirks.
