William and his brother Thomas were living in Louisville, Jefferson County, KY, in 1889 when their father's will was probated (in Lowell, Middlesex County, MA). William's future wife, Reca Mason Murphy, was living in this area in that time period, and he probably met her then.
In the census of 1900, William was living at a boarding house in Chicago run by Reca (a widow). Also living there at that time were Reca's two children, and William's cousin, William John Barris.
William married Reca Mason on 16 Jul 1906 in Hamilton County, TN. It was her second marriage and his first. They had no children.
William was connected with the General Electric Company in Chicago for 19 years, and for seven years was the special representative of the Electrical Bond and Share Company of NY, in charge of that company's properties in Panama. He retired about 1926 or 1927.
William died at the Kahler Hospital, a part of the Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, MN. He had been living in La Crosse, WI.
