Evelyn M. Adkins, 55, of Modesto died Thursday at Memorial Medical Center.

Mrs. Adkins was a native of Missouri. She lived in Modesto 34 years. She was a sorter at Tri Valley Growers for eight years. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

She is survived by her husband, Samual D. Adkins of Modesto; children, Samuel David Adkins, Cassandra Garrity and Mary Jane Litzinger, all of Modesto; a brother, Luther Massey of Missouri; sisters, Ruby Clark, Carolyn McGee and Phyllis Graves, all of Missouri, and Juanita Nye of Wisconsin; and seven grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at the Colonial Chapel of Franklin & Downs. Burial will be at Palace Cemetery in Waynesville, Mo. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the chapel.

Remembrances may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 4833, Modesto 95352.

Evelyn Marie Adkins, 55, daughter of James Luther and Mary S. Poe Massey, was born May 31, 1941, at Licking. She died Aug. 15, 1996, at Memorial Hospital in Modesto, Calif.

She grew up in the Laquey and Richland area and attended the Laquey School.

She married Samuel D. Adkins July 7, 1962. They had three children.

For the last several years, the Adkins lived in Modesto, Calif., where she was a sorter at the Tri-Valley Food Processing Co.

Surviving are her husband, Samuel D. Adkins of the home at Modesto, Calif.; one son, Samuel David Adkins of Modesto, Calif,; two daughters, Cassandra Garrity and Mary Jane Litzinger of Modesto, Calif.; one brother, Luther Massey of Republic; four sisters, Ruby Clark and Carolyn McGee of Laquey, Phyllis Graves of Dixon and Juanita Nye of Cobb, Wis.; and seven grandchildren.

Graveside services were Aug. 22 at the Palace Cemetery at Evening Shade with the Rev. Norman Sanders officiating under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.
