He was serving with No. 14 Operational Training Unit, RAF Bomber Command, based at RAF Cottesmore.

He was a pilot of a Hampden H.P. 52 bomber, P4303, which was involved in a mid-air collision during a training exercise. It crashed at Saltby Satellite Aerodrome, eight miles North-East of Melton Mowbray, at 20.50hrs on 12th September 1941. All on board were killed.
