Attje van der Woude (= of the Forest) was born in the country village Thesinge, which is located northeast of the city Groningen, the capital of the Dutch northeastern province with the same name, Groningen. Her parents were Jannes van der Woude (30 years old) and Pieterke Vredevoogd, both day-laborers.

She emigrated in 1909 to the USA.

On February 15, 1911 Adje [Anna] Van de Woude married in Manhattan, Gallatin County, located in the southwestern part of Montana, at the age of 25 years to the four years older farmer Peter John Dyke, who was born in Thesinge too.
