HOWLETT, Virginia E.
Virginia E. (Jean) Howlett, 87, of Roanoke County, peacefully passed away at home Sunday, October 16, 2005, while lovingly surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, William H. Howlett; and a special grandson, Robert C. Meador, Jr. Jean was the last of ten children of the late Michael Coleman and Lillian Hart Coleman of Barneveld, New York. She was a member of Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church. During a long career in the J.C. Penney baby department, she lovingly assisted many of Roanoke's mothers and mothers-to-be. She remained very close friends with the J.C. Penney "Golden Girls". Jean will always be remembered for her quick wit and great sense of humor. That fine characteristic remained with her into her final hours. She was proud to have given the world two loving daughters, Lynda (Robert) Meador and Gail (Robert) Stickley. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Dawn Kneisler, Michele Meador, David Thomason and Ryan Meador; as well as nine great-grandchildren. The family deeply appreciates the loving care provided by Dr's. Mallidi, Malinchak and Morgan and are also grateful for the support and friendship of her many friends and neighbors, including her lifelong friends, Anne Korona and Janie Fetter. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Saturday, October 22, 2005 at Oakey's South Chapel. The interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, October 21, 2005 at Oakey's South Chapel. The family requests that memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society; Good Samaritan Hospice or Cave Spring Rescue Squad.
