Thorland Price (T.P.) Summers was born 14 October 1921 in Ririe, Jefferson, Idaho, USA. He was 4th of the twelve children born to William Henry Summers (1892-1946) and Elsie Medora [Clifford] Summers (1894-1946). Siblings: John William Summers (1915-1915), Eldon Clifford Summers (1916-1986), Orville Earl Summers (1918-1983), Thelma R. [Summers] McMurtrey (1919-), Elsie Elaine [Summers] Phillips (1923-2014), Thomas Wayne Summers (1925-1998), Dean Lamar Summers (1927-2004), Norman Henry Summers (1929-1996), Donna Margret [Summers] Hasegawa (1931-1999), Vera G [Summers] Summers (1934-1979), Robert Summers and Lynn C. Summers (1939-1992). He attended schools in Antelope, Ririe, Ricks College, Idaho State University and University of Idaho where he served in the ROTC. During World War II he served in the glider division of the United States Air Force in the European Theater. After the war he came back to Southeastern Idaho and was a dry farmer in the areas east of Ririe and in the Willow Creek area. He married Bonnie Lou Johnson on January 14, 1949 in Ririe, Jefferson, Idaho but they later divorced on 4 April 1958 in Jefferson County, Idaho. They were the parents of 3 children. Kay [Summers] Volkema, Kit Neil Summers (1953-1999) and Kristy Ann Summers (1956-2009). Thorland was a good, kind father and was loved by all the neighborhood children as well.He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and also the Elks Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars where he was a former unit commander, district commander and had a number of national appointments. He was also an avid golfer and skier.
Thorland passed away on 28 March 1983 at the hospital in Idaho Falls, Bonneville, Idaho. He had smoked for many years and had developed emphysema in his lungs. Funeral services were held on Friday, 1 April 1983 in the Ririe 1st Ward building with Bishop Gale Larsen officiating. He was laid to rest in the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery.
