In 1870, he and his family migrated to Knox County, Missouri. It was here, on September 21, 1875 that he married Martha Elizabeth McReynolds. They had four known children: Estella Mae, Mark Earnest, Wilmer Newton, and Edward Franklin. Due to Martha's health issues, Waldo was taking his family to settle in California when she died enroute.
Waldo stayed in Cailfornia where he ranched and worked as a miner (for gold!!!). Eventually, he traveled north to settle in Oregon where he worked in the logging industry.
