John J. Sertich, 62, of Carmichaels, died at 4:55 p.m. Monday, February 28, 2011, in his home, after a 27-year struggle with multiple sclerosis.

He was born April 27, 1948, in Waynesburg, a son of Joseph J. Jr. and Stella Klimek Sertich of Carmichaels.

Mr. Sertich was a graduate of Carmichaels Area High School and Salem College of West Virginia and received his master's in business administration from the University of Maryland.

He served his country in the Pennsylvania National Guard from 1970 to 1976.

Mr. Sertich worked as an accountant for the Upjohn-Pfizer Pharmaceutical Co. and as a grant proposal reviewer for the U.S. Air Force, as long as he was able.

He was a 35-year member of Knights of Columbus Council 2577 at Bowie, Md., and attended St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church in Carmichaels.

Deceased is his twin brother, Joseph John Sertich, in 2005.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a son, John J. Sertich Jr. of Crofton, Md.; a daughter, Angela Sertich Morabito (Vincent) of Columbia, Md.; a granddaughter, Gianna Morabito; a brother, Richard Anthony Sertich (Marte Lightstone) of Albuquerque, N.M.; and a sister, Dr. Patricia Sertich (Denis O'Flynn O'Brien) of Landenburg.

Also surviving are two nieces, Katherine O'Flynn O'Brien of Landenburg and Meredith Sertich (Isaac Knight) of Wheeling, W.Va.; a nephew, Denis O'Flynn O'Brien of Landenburg; and several aunts, uncles and many cousins.

He also leaves behind his caregivers, Uncle John Klimek, Harriet and Margaret Cain and Cindy Farrar.

Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., the time of prayer service, Friday, March 4, in Lesako Funeral Home Inc., 204 Dowlin Avenue, Carmichaels, PA 15320 (724-966-5100) Paul M. Lesako, funeral director/supervisor. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. in St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church, Carmichaels, with the Rev. John Bauer as celebrant.

Entombment will be in Greene County Memorial Park Mausoleum, Morgan Township.

A parish wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
