Joseph J. Sertich Jr., 90, of Carmichaels, died Wednesday, September 24, 2014, in Donnell House, Washington.
He was born April 22, 1924, in Nemacolin, a son of the late Joseph J. Sr. and Effie Poylan Sertich.
On June 14, 1947, Mr. Sertich married Stella Klimek Sertich, who survives.
Also surviving are two children, Dr. Patricia Sertich (Denis O'Flynn O'Brien) of Landenburg and Richard A. Sertich (Marie Lightstone) of Albuquerque, N.M.; five grandchildren, Meredith Sertich (Isaac Knight), Dr. Kate O'Flynn O'Brien, Denis O'Flynn O'Brien, John J. Sertich and Angela Morabit; a great-grandchild; a sister, Josephine McGuiness of San Antonio, Texas; a brother-in-law, John Klimek, who made his home with them; brother-in-law William Klimek; sister-in-law Betty Putila; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are two sons, Joseph J. Sertich III and John J. Sertich; a sister, Mary Prodan; and brother Dr. Anthony Sertich.
Mr. Sertich was a veteran of World War II. He served four years in the U.S. Navy.
He was a retired coal miner from the Nemacolin Mine and a member of United Mine Workers of America.
He loved his horses, llamas and his beloved dog, Ada.
Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Lesako Funeral Home Inc., Carmichaels, Pa., Paul M. Lesako, funeral director/supervisor. A funeral Mass will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 27, in Sacred Heart Church, Rices Landing, with the Rev. John Bauer, celebrant. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park Mausoleum, Morgan Township, with full military rites accorded by American Legion Post 400 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491. A parish wake service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
