Vernon Felter, the second son, was evidently interested in writing, as was his sister, Inez, for he published a weekly newspaper in Oto for a time and she helped him in the office. He was interested in photography and operated what was then called a "photograph gallery", in Washta. Later he married Miss Hattie Hanson, a school teacher in Washta, and they built a home on an acreage east of town. They lived there in the new home at the time Verne was the rural mail carrier on the east route. He died early in life.
