Kathleen "Kay" Harms age 91 of Fredericksburg died Saturday, January 29, 2011, at the Hillcrest Home in Sumner.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2011, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sumner. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Fredericksburg.

Visitation will be an hour prior to the Mass at the church on Tuesday. Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, Fredericksburg will be in charge of the arrangements.

If so desired, memorials may be made to the Fredericksburg Community Education Foundation.

Kathleen "Kay" Harms was born June 24, 1919, in Greenfield, IA, the daughter of Joseph and Kathleen (Anstey) Kordick. She received her education at St. Joseph Academy in Des Moines, graduating in 1937. On August 12, 1944, in Dixon, CA, she married Kenneth Harms. The couple lived in rural Fredericksburg for many years. Kay worked at the former First State Bank in Fredericksburg for many years. After retiring, Kay and her husband enjoyed wintering in Arizona for 18 years. Kenneth Harms died on July 3, 1998. Kay became a resident at the Hillcrest Home in Sumner in 2003.

She had been a member of the former St. Frederick's Catholic Church in Fredericksburg, a charter member of the Fredericksburg AMVETS where she served as president from 1971-1973, the Plum Creek golf course where she was ladies champion for many years. In her free time she enjoyed knitting and crocheting as well.


Survivors include one son, James Burrell of Urbandale; one sister, Sr. Genevieve Kordick B.V.M. of Dubuque and her care-takers, Jack and Marcia Schult of Fredericksburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband on July 3, 1998, a sister, Monica Lisek; four brothers, Paul, George, Aloysius and Lloyd Kordick.
