He died on the 25th October 1941, on board Wellington Bomber X9989 which took off from RAF on a ferry flight to the Middle East via Gibraltar. The aircraft failed to gain height due to a hydraulic failure and crashed at Aldworth, Berkshire. He was 21.
Five of the casualties were
RCAF Flight Sergeant Carl Alexis BERGSTEN,
RAF Alexander Esson MACKIE,
RCAF Sergeant Lawrence Graydon ROWE,
RAFVR Sergeant Harry Hastings TAYLOR,
RAF Sergeant Kenneth Stanley TURNER;
And because his death was registered in the District of Aylesbury, in Buckinghamshire, it is quite possible that the sixth casualty, Sergeant D. G. Anderson, was a patient at the Stoke Mandeville hospital in Aylesbury, having been transported there following the aircraft accident, for treatment of his serious injuries----RCAF Sergeant Douglas Gordon ANDERSON.
