A 1942 graduate of Lizton High School, James Edwin Wills was killed in action during the 2nd Armored Division's participation in the Battle for Merzenhausen (Germany) on Nov 22, 1944.

"Mrs. Denia Wills of Lizton has received word from the War Department that her son, Edwin, is officially reported to have been killed in Germany, while serving with a tank unit. Surviving with the mother are two sisters, Lavina and Nellie. The father died when the children were small. Mrs. Wills received a letter shortly before her son's death stating that he was having a good time driving his jeep as he ate the candy from the Christmas box from home. With General Patton's army, young Wills had seen service in Italy, France, Belgium and Germany. He had been in the service two years and was killed in action November 22."

Memorial services were held at the Lizton Methodist church, Sunday afternoon for James Edwin Wills, who died in the service of his country November 22, 1944, and was buried in Holland. The Rev. James Shockley delivered the memorial message and the Lizton post of The American Legion conducted a short ceremony. The son of Deana Bailey Wills and the late Orville S. Wills, he was born in this county March 17, 1924, and graduated from the Lizton high school in 1942. He enlisted September 27, 1942.

The body of Edwin Wills, son of Deana Wills, was brought to the home, Monday afternoon. Graveside services were held Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock with the local American Legion in charge.
