P. M. Fisher, 77, town clerk of Columbia and justice of the peace of the Fourth Justice Court comprising ward 4, died in a hospital here Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. as the result of a heart attack Tuesday.

Mr. Fisher had been suffering from heart trouble before his death it has been disclosed. He was found slumped over his desk on Tuesday and was rushed to the local hospital for treatment.

Survivors include two sons, H. B. Fisher, cashier of the Caldwell Bank and Trust Company, in Columbia, and Bernard Fisher, of Freeport, Texas; and four daughters, Mrs. Wilma F. Brooks of Gilbert; Mrs. W. F. Royer of DeQuincy; Miss Iva Mae Fisher of Maplewood and Mrs. M. J. Hebert of Laredo, Texas.

Mr. Fisher had been prominent in parish affairs for many years. He served several years as parish assessor, and was affiliated with the local Baptist church. He was appointed justice of the peace of the Fourth Justice Court a few years ago and served as town clerk several years. Mr. Fisher was known throughout the parish as the "marrying justice" having prided himself in marrying over 100 couples during his time.

Funeral services were held on Thursday at the Columbia Baptist Church with Dr. Guy F. Winstead in charge and interment was made in the Welcome Home cemetery near Grayson, where the Columbia Masonic Lodge had charge of the services. The funeral was conducted under the direction of the Riser Funeral Home of Columbia.

The many friends and relatives who attended the funeral and paid their last respect to Mr. Fisher, showed the high esteem he was held in this parish.
