Jean McClung Powell, 87 of Cedarfields Parkway, Apt. 4819, Richmond, died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, at the Cedarfield Retirement Center. She was born on Oct. 5, 1917 in Augusta County, a daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Lena Brown McClung. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Waynesboro. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Chester Wilson Powell; three sisters, Sally Ring, Cornelia Wallace and Mary Baylor, and a brother, "Tacky'' McClung. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Barry W. and JoAnn W. Powell; two granddaughters, Heidi Phillips and Heather and Neal Masri; and great-grandson, Dylan Scott Masri; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Augusta Memorial Park by Rev. Candasu Vernon. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1920-H Medical Ave., Harrisonburg, Va., 22801. McDow Funeral Home of Waynesboro is handling arrangements.
