Marie E. Stallbaumer, 90, of Seneca, KS, died Friday, October 15, 2010 at Crestview Manor care home in Seneca.
She was born January 1, 1920, on a farm north of Baileyville, KS, the daughter of Henry F. and Mary J. Runnebaum Olberding. She attended Dewey School. She lived with her grandparents, Frank and Agnes Olberding, and helped them for several years on their farm west of St. Benedict, KS. She was employed at ABC Cleaners in Seneca for a year and a half before her marriage.
On August 10, 1943, she married Norbert Stallbaumer at Sacred Heart Church at Baileyville. They lived with Norbert's mother, Anna Stallbaumer, northwest of St. Benedict for three years until 1946 when they moved to their farm west of Seneca. Her husband, Norbert, died of Hodgkin's disease on October 9, 1972. Marie was employed at the Nemaha County Convalescent Home as a cook from 1970 until 1974 when it closed. In 1974 she began working at Countryview Estates care home in the laundry; she retired in 1990.
She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church and the St. Ann's Altar Society in Seneca, where she served on the funeral committee for many years arranging dinners for the families. She also served on the church council for three years, quilted for the church, and worked at the Mission Room.
Survivors are a son, Thomas Stallbaumer of Seneca; six daughters, Doris Leonhart Fenton of Olathe, KS, Betty Bergman and Julie Strathman, both of Seneca, Diane Hasenkamp of Axtell, KS, Nancy Miles of Lawrence, KS, and Karen Vicory of Topeka; a brother, Henry Olberding, Jr. of Beatrice, NE; two sisters, Helen Bevans of Harrisburg, OR, and Millie Bontrager of Seneca; 19 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Keith Strathman on January 8 2007; a son-in-law, Larry Leonhart on June 29, 1989; four brothers, Cyril on February 22, 1980, Aloysius on August 12, 1983, Leonard on December 27, 1992, and Alvin Olberding on December 11, 2002; and a sister, Frances Boltz on May 3, 2005.
Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 AM Monday, October 18, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
