Michael was born at Winterlingen, Germany; the son of Hans Jerg (George) Rominger (1680-c1742) and Elisabetha Odeline (Edelin) Rominger (1685-1741).

Michael married Anna Catharina (Katharina?) Anton (1717-1794) on 26 Dec 1740 at Hohenwettersbach, Durlach, Germany. He and his family emigrated to the New World in 1752 or 1753, coming to the German Colony at Broad Bay, Lincoln County, Maine. In 1770 the family moved from Maine to the Moravian Colony at Friedland, present day Forsyth County, North Carolina. Michael and Anna were the parents of 11 children; seven boys and four girls. Only four of the 11 children reached maturity. The eleven chidren were:

1. Elisabeth Barbara Rominger Ried (1741-1829)
2. Jacob Rominger (1743-1816)
3. Johannes Rominger (1745-young)
4. Georg Philip Rominger (1748-1752)
5. Johiann Ludwig Rominger (1751-1752)
6. Johann Martin Rominger (1752-1779)
7. Anna Catharina Rominger Lanius (1755-1845)
8. Jacobina Rominger (1757-1760)
9. Michael Rominger (1759-1818)
10. Christian Rominger (1762-p1787)
