Leroy was born in Ellsworth,Mahoning County, Ohio on the family homestead. His father, Huston Porter lost the property due to a bad investment for buying farming equipment and selling out West. The investor took off with the money. Huston borrowed money to move to the land in Jasper County that he had purchased in 1867, Secion 36, Sheridan Township, he became a properous Business, Farmer and Stock Raiser. After the death of Esther, he married the widow next door, Ellen Christian/Conroy. He then sold the property, divided the funds with his sons and he, Ellen and his youngest son moved to Arvada, CO.

Leroy married, Dora A Dunn 1889, they had two children, Amy Lorene Porter b. 1891 and Russel W Porter 1897.

Leroy Wolcott Porter's death record reads that his mother's maiden name was Wolcott. His mother was Ester Caldwell Smith of Conn. Her father, Doctor Smith (not medical title) Her mother was Lovina Caldwell. I believe the name Wolcott is a family name, but haven't been able to source it yet. Huston/Houston Porter gave his children middle name of family. Wolcott, Smith, Caldwell & Scott.

Huston changes the spelling of his name from Huston to Houston when he came to Jasper County, Missouri in 1874.
