Herman Edward Reed, 90, passed from this earth Friday, Aug. 13, 2010. Funeral: 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Greenwood Chapel. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Herman was born Aug. 4, 1920, in Rensselaer, Ind., to John and Flossie Reed. He spent 24 years in service to his country, retiring from the U.S. Air Force in 1960 at the rank of chief warrant officer. His early Air Force service brought him to Fort Worth, where he met and married his beautiful bride, Nona. Together they traveled wherever the military sent them, providing loving homes for their two daughters and making many friends throughout the country. After military retirement, Herman returned to Fort Worth to work at Ashburn Maps for the remainder of his career. They then enjoyed years of RV travel and playing bridge with friends. Nona preceded Herman in death in 1998. Herman will be remembered for his honesty, dignity and willingness to help others. He served as an elder at Castleberry Church of Christ for 25 years and remained a member there until his death. He was preceded in death by his wife; four sisters; and one brother. Survivors: Daughters, Dawn Michael and husband, Gary, of Mount Juliet, Tenn., and Sandra Chasteen and husband, Delbert, of Arlington; grandchildren, Tony Michael and Steve Michael of Nashville, Tenn., Lee Cobb of LaConner, Wash., and Kayla Prestridge of Saginaw; seven great-grandchildren; and brothers, John Reed of Leesville, La., and Charles Reed of Kent, Wash.
