Lewis O'Dell Akers
Lewis O'Dell Akers, 86, of the Everett Christian Home, formerly of Bedford and Michigan, died Sunday, October 25, 1987, in Memorial Hospital of Bedford County.
He was born January 4, 1901 in Monroe Township, a son of the late William C. and Clara (Conner) Akers.
He is survived by one brother, James Akers, of Clearwater, Florida.
Mr. Akers was a member of the United Methodist Church. He taught school in the area in one-room school houses in the early 1920s, then moved to Battle Creek, Michigan where he was employed. He attended Milton College in Milton, Wisconsin from 1926-1927, served in the U.S. Army in the Medical Corps during World War II, had been employed by Ford Motor Company in Michigan, and the University of Michigan where he worked until his retirement in 1967.
He was a member of the American Veterans Committee, AFC, a member of the Senior Citizens, CARP, and the Golden Agers in Bedford.
Funeral services: Tuesday, October 27, at 11 a.m. in Dalla Valle Funeral Chapel, Main Street, Everett, with Rev. Earl Barrick officiating. Burial in Everett Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.
