Funeral services for Mrs. Pearl Winningham Whitney, 77, of Jacksonville, who died Saturday at her home, 107 Pine St., will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the First Christian Church of Medford. The Rev. Fredrick R. Evans will officiate. The Order of Eastern Star will conduct their services in the church, and Upper Applegate Grange will conduct graveside services in Logtown Cemetery. Conger-Morris Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Whitney was born April 20, 1888, in Myrtle Point, Ore. She was the daughter of the late James B. and Mary Jane Hatton Winningham, who came to the valley in the late 1860s. Her husband, Harry Whitney, preceded her in death in 1955. Also, two sons, Lester W. Smith and James H. Smith preceded her in death. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Medford, in which she was an active and participating member since 1910, joining in Grant's Pass. She was an active member of Adarel Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, a 25-year member of the Upper Applegate Grange, the Southern Oregon Historical Society, and the Garden Club of Jacksonville. The body will lie in state Tuesday at Conger-Morris chapel.

Survivors include two sons, Mark Smith, Medford, and Loyd Whitney, Medford; three daughters, Mrs. Beulah Peck, Medford; Mrs. Ralph Lawrence, Jacksonville, and Mrs. Charles Young, Jacksonville; one brother, James B. Winningham, Jacksonville; one sister, Mrs. Ella Russell, Medford, 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Honorary casket bearers will include Joe Crawford, Roy Williamson, Clyde H[-?-], John Byrne, Bernie Ford and Leo Young. Active bearers will include George Redhead, Omar Culy, Orval Shores, Albert Griffin, Floyd Cary and Roy Henry. Those who wish may contribute to the Rehabilitation Center for the Blind.
