Note:
John was noted, on a Japanese Radio Broadcast made on April 3, 1944, that he along with 2nd Lt. Baker and 2nd Lawyer were all three POW's. However they did not later show him as a POW in their records. They did, however, show Baker & Lawyer in those records.
It's assumed that since they found John's dog tags, and not John himself, that he actually died in the crash.
His remains have never been found.

John served as a Flight Officer & Pilot on B-24D "Miss Carriage" #41-24207, 400th Bomber Squadron, 90th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

B-24D #41-24207 took off from 5-Mile Drome (Ward Drome), National Capital District, Papua New Guinea on a mission over Wewak (Wewak Point), Wewak District, East Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea.
After leaving the target they were attacked by a Japanese fighter that damaged and caused one of their engines to catch fire. The plane quickly made a descent and 7 parachutes were seen to leave the B-24 before it exploded and crashed near Wewak.
