William served as a Technical Sergeant on B-24D "Miss Carriage" #41-24207, 400th Bomber Squadron, 90th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Caddo Parish, Louisiana prior to the war.

B-24D #41-24207 took off from 5-Mile Drome (Ward Drome), National Capital District, Papua New Guinea on a mission over Wewak (Wewak Point), Wewak District, East Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea.

After leaving the target they were attacked by a Japanese fighter that damaged and caused one of their engines to catch fire. The plane quickly made a descent and 7 parachutes were seen to leave the B-24 before it exploded and crashed near Wewak. Japanese fighters strafed the men in the parachutes while they were going down. It could not be determined by other B-24's if any of the men survived or not.
