Richard's remains were recovered and identified. He was interred in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.

Son of Mrs. Margaret B. Hurst who resided in Staten Island, New York.

Richard served as a First Lieutenant & Pilot on B-25D #41-30182, 71st Bomber Squadron, 38th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in New York County, New York prior to the war.

B-25D #41-30182 took off, with a crew of 5 and 4 passengers, from Saidor Airfield, Madang Province, Papua New Guinea on a courier mission to Nadzab, Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea. This B-25 was not seen nor heard from again after take off.

After the war this B-25 was found to have crashed in the Finisterre Mountains area, Morobe Province, Madang, Papua New Guinea. Multiple recover expeditions were made with the last being in 1999.

Richard was first declared "Missing In Action" on this flight and his status was changed to "Killed In Action" in the "Line Of Duty" after his remains were recovered.

He was previously awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
