Martin served as a First Lieutenant & Pilot on B-17G (#42-38191), 350th Bomber Squadron, 100th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Mercer County, Pennsylvania prior to the war.

Martin was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-17 was shot down by enemy fighters and crashed into the Baltic Sea off the island of Lolland, Denmark during the war. He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.

Service # O-812664

Martin also has a "Cenotaph" in the Saint Anns Cemetery, Hermitage, Pennsylvania with his parents.
