George served as a Captain & Pilot on B-29 #42-63430, 873rd Bomber Squadron, 498th Bomber Group, Very Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Los Angeles County, California prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on October 12, 1940, prior to the war, at Fort MacArthur, San Pedro, California. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a typist and also as Single, without dependents.

He was married sometime after his enlistment.

B-29 #42-63430 took off, with a crew of 11, from Isley Field #1, Saipan on a bombing mission over Negoya, Japan. After a successful bombing mission, via radio, they reported that they were attacked by enemy aircraft which shot out one of their engines and wounded two crew members. They also reported that they were ditching in the sea near Dolly's Folly. The entire crew was lost in this ditching.

George was declared "Missing In Action" in this ditching.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
