Morris served as a Second Lieutenant & Bombardier on B-29 "Tokyo Local" #42-24687, 882nd Bomber Squadron, 500th Bomber Group, Very Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
He resided in West Feliciana Parish, Louisiana prior to the war.
B-29 #42-24687 took off, with a crew of 11 & approximately 70 other B-29s, from Isley Field, Saipan on a bombing mission over the Mitsubishi aircraft engine factory at Nagoya, Japan.
After a successful bombing run, and while returning to base, it was noticed that B-29 #42-24687 was possibly hit by ground anti-aircraft fire as they were having trouble with 2 of their engines. They ended up ditching into the sea off the coast of Japan. The entire crew was lost in this ditching.
Morris was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission during the war.
He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple heart.
