She was of a very religious nature and joined the Baptist Church in Luray, when quite young. She was very active in church work and no task was too hard when it was for her church. She was very interested and very active in soliciting funds for the building of the new Baptist Church building in Luray. She later joined the Adventist Church and continued to work zealously for her church until her death.
On May 19th, she fell and fractured her hip. She was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Keokuk, Iowa, where she passed away on May 24, 1948 at the age of 79 years, 3 months, and 24 days.
She leaves to mourn her loss a nephew, Victor E. Bailey of Fulton, Missouri and a niece, Mrs. Claire Lewis of Fulton, Missouri.
Funeral services were held at the Luray Baptist Church, Thursday, May 27, at 2 pm conducted by Rev. C. T. Morrison of the Methodist Church. The singers were Mrs. Stella Hawkins, Mrs. Otis Gutting, Mrs. Wallace Hardy, and Charles Smith with Mrs. Leland Selway accompanist.
The pallbearers were Arliss Parrish, Dave Coffrin, Rov Gutting, Otho Fairbrother, O. O. St. Clair, and George Smith.
Burial was in the Combs Cemetery.
