Emery was the son of Gust and Julia (Anderson) Nelson.
He married Patricia A. Larson on April 10, 1949 in Oakland, NE.

Funeral services for J. Emery Nelson, 71 of Blair, who died August 23, 1993, at
the Memorial Community Hospital are 10:30 Thursday, August 26 at First United
Methodist Church in Blair with burial in the Blair Cemetery.

J. Emery Nelson was born January 1, 1922 at Oakland, Nebraska to Gust W. and
Julia A. Anderson Nelson. He attended elementary school in Oakland and graduated
from Oakland High School in 1940.

He served in the Army during World War II.

In 1946, he moved to Blair, where he and his brother, Gus, owned and operated
Nelson Bros. Clothiers.

On April 10, 1949 he married Patricia Larson at Oakland.

After his retirement from the clothing store in 1985, he was manager of the
Blair Golf Club in 1986 and 1987, until suffering a stroke.

He served on the Blair School Board for nine years with the last three as
president; member and past president of the Blair Lions Club and a past District
Governor; past member and president of the Blair Fire Department; member of the
Blair American Legion; member of the First United Methodist Church and past
officer.

In 1990, he received the Lions Club Melvin Jones Fellow Award. In 1992, he
received the Blair Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Patricia;
son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Deb Nelson, Beatrice, Nebraska; daughter and
son-in-law, Prudy and Bill Cemer, Blair, Nebraska; five grandchildren, Ryan
Nelson, Erin Nelson, Chad Cemer, Nicklas Cemer and Blake Cemer; three brothers,
Vincent Nelson, Lincoln, Nebraska, Lester “Gus” Nelson, Blair, Nebraska and
Merlin “Curly” Nelson, Oakland.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
