Mads Andersen was born in Stenderup, Denmark, Nov. 18, 1848. He married Mrs. Mette Jorgenson Jan. 2, 1877. To this union ten children were born, two died in infancy, and Mrs. Eliza Christenson died in August 1913, and Andrew in January 1923.
Those surviving are the widow and the following sons and daughters, Mrs. S. J. Sorenson of Whiting, Iowa; Geo. of St. Paul; Peter of Hazelwood; Mrs. Andrew Sorenson of Greenvale; Mrs. S. S. Sjulstad of Little Chicago; and Neal at home.
Mr. Andersen and family came to the United States in April, 1883, and lived in Hazelwood until 1884 when he purchased a farm at Trondjem west of Little Chicago and lived there till 1902. Then he bought a farm at Little Chicago where he died August 22, at 1:20 p.m.
The funeral took place Saturday at one o'clock at the home and at two o'clock at Immanuel's Danish Lutheran church at Hazelwood, where Rev. P. M. Peterson spoke in Danish and Rev. Mr. Chelman, former pastor at Webster spoke in English. A quartet from Northfield rendered two numbers.
Old friends and neighbors in great numbers were present to pay their last respects to a friend who was greatly loved by all.

The community was saddened Wednesday afternoon to hear of the death of Mads Andersen, one of its old timers. The funeral was held Saturday and interment was made in the Danish church cemetery at Hazelwood. Those from a distance attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Soren Sorenson, Whiting, IA, and Mr. and Mrs. George Anderson and children of St. Paul, Alfred Quinnell and daughters of Waterford, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Engen, Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Johnson, also of Waterford, Mr. and Mrs. Torkel Peterson, Casper, Tom, and Christ and families of Northfield, Mr. and Mrs. Ole Berg, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Engen and daughters Ada and Luella, Mrs. Andrew Anderson of Northfield, Rev. and Mrs. Chelmen of Madison, Minn., Rev. K. C. Holter of Minneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Peterson of St. Paul.
