Funeral services for Mrs. Mette Andersen, who died Friday, June 18, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Andrew Sorensen in Greenvale township, were held Monday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock at the Sorensen home and at 2:00 o'clock at the Hazelwood church, with the Rev. H. Irving Petersen officiating. Burial was in the family lot in the adjoining cemetery. Pallbearers were six grandsons, Arthur Sorensen, Walter Sorensen, Clifford Sjulstad, Robert Fox, Emerald Thomas and Albert Conant.

Mette Petersen, daughter of Peter Nielsen and Karen Therkildatter, was born June 26, 1854 at Stendrup, Denmark. She was married to Knud Jorgensen, who passed away soon after their marriage. A baby girl, born to them, died in infancy.

In 1877 she was united in marriage with Mads Andersen, who precedded her in death fourteen years ago. To this union ten children were born. Of these, five survive, Caroline (Mrs. Soren J. Sorensen) of Whiting, Iowa; Peter Andersen of Northfield; George Andersen of South St. Paul; Anna (Mrs. Andrew Sorensen) of Northfield; Nels Andersen of St. Peter. Mrs. Andersen also leaves thirty-three grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, five nephews and two nieces.

Together with her husband and children she came to the United States in 1883, living at Hazelwood for one year then moving to Trondjem and later to Little Chicago. After the death of her husband she made her home for several years with her son, Peter. During the last five years she has lived with her daughter, Anna, and family in Greenvale township. Her brother, Torkel Peterson, preceded her in death only twenty days ago.

Mrs. Andersen was a charter member of the Immanuel Lutheran Ladies Aid Society at Hazelwood, of which she was the organizer. From the beginning of this organization until a few years ago when her health began to fail because of her advanced age, she was active in its affairs and also in the work of her church. Her Christian life and testimony were always an inspiration to those with whom she came in contact.

Those from away who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Soren J. Sorenson of Whiting, Iowa; Mrs. George Ruth and children, Donald and Evan of Onawa, Iowa; and Mrs. Ralph Porter of Sioux City, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Sam Petersen and daughter Bertha of Terril, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. George Andersen and family of South St. Paul; Mr. and Mrs. Emerald Thomas, Mr. and Mrs. George Peterson and family, Miss Clara Sorenson, and Mrs. Paulina Andersen, all of St. Paul; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Larson, Mr. and Mrs. Halvor Hafdahl and son and Nels Anderson of St. Peter; Mr. and Mrs. Jorgen Anderson and daughters of Farmington; and Miss Gladys Peterson of Buffalo.
