Marie is the daughter of Hans Fredrick Nyberg and Ingrid Catherina Carlsdotter, who had 10 known children, all born in Sweden. Marie was occasionally known as "Mary". She married Andrew Swanson in about 1885 in Yankton, SD and they had three children: Helen, Lillian and John (born 1890).
