Hilda Christine was born 19 Jan 1849 in Hakafors, Kronoberg, Hjortsberga, Smaland, Sweden. She was the eldest of ten known children of Hans Frederick Nyberg and Ingrid Catherina Carlsdotter. She emigrated with some of her siblings in about 1868, settling in the Yankton area.

On 11 Sep 1872 Hilda married Fred Donaldson and they had eight children, three of whom died as infants. Hilda died 26 Mar 1932 following a stroke and is buried at the Yankton Cemetery.
