Lloyd Starnes Jr., 61, of Newport, died Tuesday at his home. He was encouraged during his last days due to the love and caring deeds of his precious family and friends. He was director of manufacturing for the Volunteer Blind Industries and considered the employees as his second family.

He was a member of the Lions Club and attended Calvary Baptist Tabernacle.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Bea Starnes; and sister, Betty Jane Starnes.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Starnes, of the home; father, Loyd Starnes Sr. of Newport; sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Joyce Starnes of Parrottsville, Jeff and Linda Starnes of Newport, and Chad Starnes of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Buffy and Barry Gregory of Newport; brother, Lester Starnes of Newport; sisters, Peggy Parks of Parrottsville and Evelyn Taylor of Newport; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the Manes Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Wells and Manson Lee officiating. Rev. Tom Mooty will be singing a favorite hymn of the family, “Peace, Wonderful Peace.” Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday in the Union Cemetery with the Rev. Tom Mooty officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday prior to the funeral services.

Loyd’s Volunteer Blind family is welcome to meet with his family Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Manes Funeral Home for a private memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lions Club and Smoky Mountain Hospice, 222 Heritage Blvd., Newport, TN 37821.
