CLAYTON, N.Y. — Joseph M. Turcotte, 73, of 800 State St., died Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 22, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse, where he had been a patient for two months.

Calling Hours will be held 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., 320 John St., Clayton. The funeral service will be held 9 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 25, at the 1st Baptist Church of the 1000 Islands, Clayton, with Rev. Dr. D. James Lewis, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery, town of Cape Vincent.

Donations may be made in his name to the Clayton Minor Hockey Association.

Born May 23, 1934, in Watertown, the son of Irwin J. and Jessie McRae Turcotte, he graduated from Clayton Central School and attended St. Lawrence University, Canton, for two years.

He entered the Army on March 16, 1955, received the qualification badge second class artillery, and served with the Battery A, 78th AAA Missile Battalion. He was honorably discharged as a specialist third Class on March 15, 1957.

He married M. Suzanne Marshall on Sept. 25, 1957 at the Alexandria Bay United Methodist Church with Rev. Nichols officiating. She died April 29, 1998.

From 1959 to 1993, the worked for Niagara Mohawk, Watertown, retiring as an electric planner. He then was a home inspector for the Clayton Improvement Association., and was a Right of Way Agent for Schwerzmann & Wise, Watertown.

He was a member of the 1st Baptist Church of the 1000 Islands, the American Legion Colon-Couch Post 821, and a former member of the Clayton Lions Club. He was active with the Clayton Minor Hockey Association, holding several positions. He served on the Clayton Zoning Board for many years, as a Clayton

Trustee for five years, and as the mayor of Clayton for six years. He was a member of the Men's Golf League, and was a former director of the Red Cross. He was also a former member of the St. Lawrence Cemetery Board.

He was a member of the Niagara Mohawk 25 year Club and the Pensioners Club.

He enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren, cutting firewood for Big Bundles, Clayton, raising herfords, and the companionship of his Lhasa Apso, Charlie.

Mr. Turcotte is survived by his three daughters and two sons-in-law, Julie E. and Dr. Todd S. Koch, Richmond, Va., Sarah S. O'Day, Long Beach, Calif., and Beth A. abd Craig F. McGraw, Cape Vincent; his two sons and their wives, Joseph J. Turcotte and his wife Lynda Natali, Ithaca, and Andrew I. and Melinda Turcotte, North Syracuse; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; his brother and his wife, Donald I. and Mary Turcotte, Clayton; his sister and her husband, Sally M. and Lionel Radley, Cape Vincent.

A sister, Elaine Hill, died before him.
