"Elizabeth Burchfield was born August 9, 1863, and died June 15, 1942. Making her stay in this life 78 years 8 months and 6 days.
She leaves to mourn her departure 6 sons, Sam Burchfield of Maryville, Tenn., Rt. 1; John Burchfield of Madison, Ga.; Bruce Burchfield of Andrews, N. C.; Lee Burchfield of Robbinsville, N. C.; three daughters, Mrs. Tildia Brown of Maryville, Tenn., Rt. 5; Mrs. Nancie Williams and Mrs. Cordelia Williams of Tapoco, N. C.; A number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Nath Hughes and Sam Hughes of Calderwood, Tennessee; 3 sisters, Mrs. Ellen Payne of Walland, Rt. 1; Sindia Hill and Pliner Davis. She leaves also a host of her relatives and friends.
Her dearly beloved husband preceded her in death 11 months.
She professed in Christ and joined the Primitive Baptist Church a short time before she died, but was never baptized. Her last remains was placed in the Farley Cemetery by the side of her husband to await the resurrection morn.
The funeral services were conducted by Elder George Taylor of Maryville, Tenn., Rt. 5, and Elder Gardner Burchfield, Tapoca, N. C."
Note: It has been brought to my attention that the date of Mrs. Burchfield's birth given in her obituary conflicts with the date on her tombstone. Because of this, the date of her birth is inconclusive.
The photo of the tombstone was taken by Wanda Darnell.
The accompanying photo of five of her sons,( l to r: Bruce, Sam, John, Pleas, and Theodore) is taken from Randolph Shields book mentioned above.
