Donald served as a Captain, 80th Troop Carrier Squadron, 436th Troop Carrier Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on October 16, 1942 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Lawyer and also as Single, without dependents.

He was promoted to the rank of Captain on September 1, 1944.

Donald died in the "Line Of Duty" while a passenger on C-47 #41-18603, which took off from Florence Airport en route to Rome, and crashed near Montieri, Italy due to extreme weather during the war.

There were 22 passengers and 4 crew members on this flight. 20 passengers and 3 crew member perished.

C-47 #41-18603 was part of the 35th Troop Carrier Squadron, 64th Troop Carrier Group.

Donald was originally interred in Italy and was later repatriated here on January 20, 1950.

The reason he is named on a group headstone is because when soldier's were killed in close proximity to each other they were unable, at that time, to identify them separately and interred their remains together in one grave.
