OBITUARY OF MRS. STAPLES
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
...Wealthy Carmoline Richards was born in Basco, Ill on September 6, 1855. She died at the Grace Methodist Hospital in Hutchinson, Kansas, on June 8, 1925. Age 69 years, 9 months, and 2 days.
...On July 10th, 1874, she was united in marriage to John William Staples at Basco, Ill. To this union were born six children, three daughters and three sons, of whom four are now living. One son, Frank, and one daughter, Ethel, have passed away.
...In the fall of 1884 the family came to Kansas settling in Pratt County, in the Golden Valley neighborhood. They lived here until the fall of 1887 when they purchased the Old Gant Mill and ran it until the mill burned down. In 1907, the family moved to Meade County, settling on a farm southeast of Fowler, living there until 1916 when they moved into the town of Fowler where they have resided ever since.
...During all these years and amidst different environments, Mrs. Staples has always made warm friends by her exemplary life. She never united with any church but has always lived a clean Christian life. It has been the writer's privilege to know her for the past forty years and always her life has been the same kind and loving, always ready to do her part in life's battles.
...The later years of her life she was afflicted with deafness, so did not go out much in public places. She had gone to Hutchinson for treatment of an ailment of many years standing but there was no hope, and she passed away on Monday evening.
...She leaves to mourn her death, her husband, two daughters, Maude Belden, Arlington, Kansas, Gertrude Welty, Sterling, Kansas, two sons, John Wesley of Pratt, and Dorsey of Rocky Ford, Colorado, fourteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren, on sister, Mrs. Harriett Wade of St. Louis, Missouri.
...Besides these loved ones there is a host of friends and neighbors from each neighbohood in which she has lived. For to know Mrs. Staples was to love her. The funeral service was held at the Methodist church in Fowler, Wednesday, June 10th, conducted by Rev. H.E. Stipe, of Jetmore, assisted by Rev. Kirk of Fowler. Among the many floral offerings was one beautiful bouquet of flowers raised by Mrs. Staples as she was always a lover of flowers, putting much of her time in their cultivation, which was a great help in passing away the hours which otherwise would have been lonely on account of her deafness.
...The body was shipped to Pratt for burial internment in Greenlawn cemetery beside the graves of her loved one. A large congregation had gathered in the early hour to pay their tribute to one they loved and honored. The family have the deepest sympathy of all their many friends in this hour of deepest grief, for who can take the place of mother?
