Johnnie Mack Blanton, 89, of Oak Ridge, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 24, 2006. He was born on March 3, 1917 in Woodbury, TN, the first of nine sons to Bryan and Flossie Blanton. Mr. Blanton came to Oak Ridge in 1943 as an employee of Union Carbide at the K-25 Gaseous Diffusion Plant. He worked at K-25 as a chemical operator and in heavy machinery for 37 years. Mr. Blanton also worked as an auto mechanic on the side until health problems arose.

He was a member of Trinity Methodist Church as well as a 32nd degree Mason with Faith Masonic Lodge of Oak Ridge. In 1984 Mr. Blanton served as Worthy Patron in the Chapter 390 Eastern Star of Oak Ridge. He remained very active up until his death.

On June 21st of this year, Mr. Blanton and his wife Nell celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

He is preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Lemmei, O. G., Acy and Morris Blanton.

Mr. Blanton is survived by his wife IvaNell Blanton; daughter, Barbara Fricke and husband Martin of Del Mar, CA; Sons, Glynn Blanton and wife Kris of Brentwood, TN and Lynn Blanton and wife Marquita of Oak Ridge; 2 Grandchildren, Scott and Marissa Blanton, both of Knoxville and 1 Great Granddaughter, Olivia Faith Blanton of Florence, AL.

He is also survived by four brothers, Glynn Blanton and wife Mott of Onyx, CA, Dale Blanton and wife Sandra of Madison, TN, Kenneth Blanton and wife Alean of Goodlettsville, TN and High Blanton and wife Sue of Ashland City, TN, and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Blanton is also survived by sister-in-laws, Marie McKissack, Reba McKissack and Tean Blanton.

A Masonic Service will be held on Tuesday at 7:30pm at Weatherford Mortuary with funeral services following. Graveside services are Wednesday at 10:00am at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

Active pallbearers are Glynn Blanton, Lynn Blanton, Scott Blanton, Martin Fricke, Kent Blanton and Bill Butler. Honorary pallbearers are Morgan Fritzpatrick, Pat Daugherty, Mason Woodson, Daniel Rhine, Raymond Wolfenbarger, Lloyd Blackwood and Hugh Turpin.

The family asks that any memorials be made in his memory to Caris Health Care Hospice or the Hospitality House of Oak Ridge. The family would like to thank the staff at NHC and Caris Health Care Hospice for all the special care they gave to Mr. Blanton during his illness.
