"On Wednesday morning, 16th inst. at 4 o'clock, at Brooklyn, Professor FRANCIS FAUVEL GOURAUD, aged 39 years.
His friends and acquaintances are respectfully invited to attend his funeral, from his late residence 202 Columbia st, Brooklyn, this afternoon, at 4 o'clock. His remains will
be taken to Greenwood Cemetery for interment.
Professor Gouraud was a native of Martinique, but has been for a number of years a resident in this country. He leaves two young children who but a month since, lost their
other parent, and are thus made doubly orphans in a strange land. Although Prof. Gouraud has been for 18 months past in a decline, yet the immediate cause of his death
was doubtless grief for the loss of his wife, to whom he was tenderly attached. He was a man of extensive learning, having a general knowledge of nearly every branch of
science—was master of many languages, and proficient in five or six. He had in press at the time of his death, an orthoepic work in connection with a new system of Phonography, which exhibits the analytical character of his mind in a strong degree. This work, when published, will win for him a name with the best writers on the subject of language. Those who knew him best will mourn his loss with the truest grief. For two years his struggle with life was a severe one, and
"After life's fitful fever he sleeps well."
