Abel joined the colonial army in the Revolutionary War and was accredited to the town of Cornwall, CT. He enlisted as a private on August 27, 1781 in Cornwall in Capt. James Stoddard's Co. which was used to defend a portion of the CT coastline. He later joined General George Washington at Phillipsburg and was also under Heath's orders on the Westchester line. Three of his sons served as soldiers in the Connecticut militia throughout the same campaign: Abel, Joel, and Gould. He received a pension for his service. Abel Camp was listed on the Vermont Revolutionary War Pensioners' Roll in Nov 10, 1819; his pension was $96.00 per year.
