Mrs. Rachel Bingaman, one of the early settlers of Washington township and one among the oldest women of that section of the county was found dead in bed at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Overton, two miles southwest of Columbia, early on the morning of Friday, Aug. 21, 1908. She had not been well for several months but was in her usual health when she retired Thursday evening. Her age was soemthing more than 83 years.
Deceased leaves 4 sons and 2 daughters besides numerous other relatives to mourn her death.
Her maiden name was Harned and it is remarked as an unusual circumstance that she could boast of having 4 brothers (correction - 3 brothers) in the ministry.
Funeral services were held at Oakdale Church, Monroe County on Saturday afternoon at 3:00, conducted by Rev. Smith of Columbia. Burial in Oakdale cemetery.
