Mr. Wiegand came to St. Clair county when he was 16 years old from Westfalen, Germany, where he was born Oct 30, 1864. In 1879 he joined his widowed mother in Marysville. He worked in lumber yards during the summer and on the tunnel in the winter. He also helped build the Huron Salt company plant, now the Morton Salt company, and worked in the plant several years.
He was married to Miss Otellia Limberg, Port Huron April 19, 1888. She died in January 1927. He retired in 1924.
Mr. Wiegand joined Cedarwood camp, No. 4 Woodmen of the World in 1892. He was a member of St John's Evangelical church.
He is survived by a son, Otto H. Wiegand, three daughters, Mrs. Clara O Mertz, Mrs. Joseph C Gruel and Mrs. Elsie Christy, all of Port Huron and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Albert A Falk & Son mortuary. Rev EJ Soell, pastor of St John's Evangelical church will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside cemetery.
The remains will be in the family residence until Saturday noon."
