Jacob Kauffman Coffman was born in Frederick Co. Maryland ca. 1756, the eldest son of Johannes Kaufmann and Johannah Brille.
He served in the Revolutionary War, April 1, 1777 thru the winter of 1782 when he was taken prisoner at the battle of Eutaw Spring, South Carolina.
Jacob was listed as private, 5th Company, 3 Regiment Maryland Line, German, Company commanded by Captain Bosel-Batzel, Regiment commander Colonel Weltner. Jacob was also in battles, Monmouth New Jersey July 1778, Shamong N.J. New Point Virginia, Yorktown Virginia October 1781 when Cornwallis surrendered.
Jacob applied for and received a pension #6943, November 26, 1821 in Casey County Kentucky. with back pay of $26.36 and rate of $8 a month.
It is beleived Jacob married Catherine Linebaugh before 1790 in Frederick Co. Maryland. and in 1791 moved to Greene Co. Tennessee along with Catherine's family.
Jacob is listed in the 1790 census of Frederick Co. Maryland as head of household and 1 female over 16 years of age.
Jacob is listed on tax records 1798, 1809, and neglecting
on 1814 Greene Co. Tennessee. He is mentioned on deed in 1803 with 100 acres bewilled from Jacob Sr. Linebaugh to him and the land was later sold by Jacob Sr. Linebaugh to Jacob Linebaugh Jr. for the amount of 80 pounds and lying on the waters of Lick Creek. Jacobs oldest daughter, Susannah married Joel Green March 12, 1812 in Greene Co. Tennessee.
Jacob first appears in Casey Co. Ky. in the 1817 tax list.
Elizabeth, the daughter of Jacob marries Jordan Rousey June 5, 1817 Casey Co. Ky.
Jacob receives land grant for his service in the war, 50 acres, November 25, 1826, Watercourse Big South Rolling Fork in northern Casey Co. Ky. On September 10, 1833 Jacob gives deposition for William Southerland for his service in the Revolutionary War stating they fought in many battle together. On October 18, 1838 Jacob gives deposition for his sister in law Elizabeth Hafley widow of
Jacob Hafley whom served with him in the same Regiment in the Revolutionary War.
Jacob appears on the 1840 list of pensioners and is listed at age 84 years.
Jacob Coffman dies June 2, 1840 Casey Co. Ky. and is buried in Coffman Cemetery Homestead today know as Hardin Coffman Cemetery.
