John Coffman was the son of Jacob Sr. and Catherine Linebaugh Coffman who settled in the Ellisburg area of Casey County Kentucky about 1815. His siblings were: Susannah married Joel Green, Elizabeth married Jordan Rousey, Mary Polly married David Young, Jacob 1st married Catherine Lane 2nd married Necy Dorsey Reynolds, David married Patsy Southerland. 1/2 brother Frederick Coffman, son of Jacob Sr. and Chloe Richards Coffman married Sarah Sally Cloyd.
John married Nancy Ellen Ellis October 9, 1835 in Casey Co. Ky. Her parents were Richard and Elizabeth Kitty Jones Ellis.
